A little late, but certainly better than never, how absolutely fantastic is it that four African faces received nominations at this year’s Golden Globes? Even more reason to watch it now, although we all know that black faces winning these awards is another story entirely.
Steve McQueen’s ‘12 Years A Slave’ starring Ejiofor and Nyong’o has also been nominated for Best Director, Best Screenplay for a Film, Best Original Music for a film and Best Drama.
Here’s what they’ve been nominated for:
Chiwetel Ejiofor (Nigeria) - Best Actor in a Drama (12 Years A Slave)
Idris Elba (Ghana & Sierra Leone) - Best Actor in a Drama (Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom)
Lupita Nyong’o (Kenya) - Best Actress in a Supporting Role (12 Years A Slave)
Barkhad Abdi (Somalia) - Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Captain Phillips)
