After riots, instigated by Senegalese fans, broke out in the stadium during the playoff Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match between hosts Senegal and the Ivorian team, Senegal has officially been disqualified from the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

The Saturday match was called off after 74 minutes of play as fans in the stands began to show their frustration moments after Ivorian player Didier Drogba scored to give the visitors a 6-2 aggregate lead after what some say was a controversial penalty.

Fires were lit by fans and objects were thrown on to the field causing the match to be abandoned.

Fearful Ivorian fans jumped out of the stands and on to the pitch in a bid to escape the violence, whilst others gathered together with other Ivorian spectators to seek safety in numbers.

Both teams had to be escorted out of the stadium by security forces.
